The upcoming summer transfer window in Germany is set to close one day later than usual. According to information obtained by Transfermarkt, clubs in the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, and 3. Liga will have an extra 24 hours to complete deals in the next season. While last year’s deadline fell on September 1 because August 31 was a Sunday, this time the shift is driven by a factor from England.

Typically, the final day of the transfer window is only moved if it coincides with a weekend. Last summer, that was the case. However, this year, August 31 falls on a Monday. The issue arises because the last Monday in August is a public holiday in England (August Bank Holiday). As a result, the Premier League transfer deadline is pushed back by one day to September 1. Since the top five European leagues have historically agreed on a common Deadline Day, the other four major leagues will follow suit.

Serie A has already confirmed the postponement of its summer window closure. The winter transfer window in Italy will also shift one day to February 1, as January 31 falls on a Sunday. In all these leagues, the window will remain open until 8:00 PM local time. LaLiga once again stands as the exception, keeping its market open until midnight as in previous years.

Outside the top five leagues, several other countries have even longer summer windows. In Austria, clubs may be able to sign players until September 7. Switzerland extends the deadline by an additional day, and Turkey goes even further, with the window open until September 11.
