Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is expected to feature in a friendly match against Russia in Cairo this May, an Egyptian Football Association official has confirmed. Walid El-Attar told Sport-Express that the game is scheduled for May 29, and Salah will be included in the squad.
“The match between Russia and Egypt will take place in Cairo on May 29. Mohamed Salah will also take part in this match,” El-Attar said.
Russian Football Union (RFU) General Secretary Maxim Mitrofanov earlier stated that the federation is in negotiations to host three friendly matches for the national team in June. On June 5, Russia is set to play a friendly against Burkina Faso in Moscow.
Russia currently ranks 36th in the FIFA world rankings, while Egypt sits at 29th. Salah, 33, has been with Liverpool since 2017 and has scored 65 goals in 113 appearances for Egypt’s national team.
Since 2022, Russia has only been able to play friendly matches due to suspensions imposed by UEFA and FIFA.
