The transfers of Luis Javier Suárez and Marc Pubill continue to provide financial returns for UD Almería, even months after both players left the club. The sale of the Colombian striker, which was finalized at €22.15 million, included add-ons worth over €5 million. Thanks to the forward’s outstanding campaign with Sporting CP, Almería has already surpassed €24 million from that deal.
Almería received €750,000 after Suárez made more than 20 starts for the Lisbon side, plus another €750,000 when he reached 25 goals. Additionally, the club will earn another €500,000 at the end of the Portuguese season, as Suárez is set to be the league’s top scorer with 27 goals, ahead of Benfica’s Pavlidis (21 goals). In total, that’s €2 million, not counting bonuses related to Sporting’s strong run in the UEFA Champions League, where they reached the quarterfinals.
As for Marc Pubill, his sale to Atlético Madrid was valued at €16 million, with bonuses between €4 million and €5 million. Almería has received €1.5 million based on Atlético’s participation in the Champions League, where they reached the semifinals. In both cases, Almería retains a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer. Given that both players have €80 million release clauses, Almería could earn nearly €12 million more — €5.5 million from Suárez and €6.2 million from Pubill.
This situation also affects a potential future move by RCD Mallorca’s Samú Costa, who was transferred in the summer of 2023 and is expected to be one of the club’s departures. Almería secured a 20% sell-on clause, meaning they could pocket over €3.4 million if a club triggers his €20 million release clause. These moves ensure financial stability for the Andalusian club, which anticipates a busy summer, especially if they secure promotion to LaLiga EA Sports.
Among the players most likely to leave in the upcoming summer transfer window are Sergio Arribas and Dion Lopy. The Madrid-born attacking midfielder is attracting interest from many clubs, particularly abroad, which could drive up his price. Similarly, the Senegalese central midfielder may draw attention from teams in other countries.
